Yes, I know this is the biggest scoop of the year. Or so they tell us. It is not secret that the Media make a living out of other's misery, but should we care? Why are we falling prey for over-hyped breaking news about celebrities time after time, which has no real impact on our daily lives. We still sit there with our eyes glued to the TV like, the very existence of our planet is at at risk unless we found out what actually happened with Tiger Woods. Like this is even bigger issue than global warming. The only people who benefit from this is the News channels with their ability to to distract us from the real issues, to send their ratings shooting up through the roof.
Let's get back to the real question. Do we like Tiger because he is the best husband? or do we like him because he is a golfer who can pull out some impossible shots on the golf course? I cannot remember Tiger ever laying claims on the best husband title. As for me, I don't worship Tiger, but I admire him for his ability to entertain us year after year while I sit at home sipping on my favorite beverage and watch him hit one behind the tree and hit a miraculous second shot to finish the hole with a birdie. Unlike all those Governers who had secret affairs, Tiger is not an elected official nor does he hold any position in the government, which makes him not answerable to us. For the same reason I don't really care what he does outside the golf course, ever. I know that a lot of people feel the same way. Then why is this the biggest news of the year after MJ's death? Is the Media the culprit? or are we really trying to run away from our real problems? The problems that really matter to us, like healthcare, jobs, mortgage, kids. Is this our escape from reality? Are we living in THE MATRIX?
I remember when I was a kid, such news were only limited to the gossip magazines, which people read if they had nothing better to do. The Mainstream Media mostly reported on important news, news that has relevence to our daily lives. Nowadays, the Mainstream Media is spending most of their day reporting gossip news and it is in your face. Gone are the days, when at the end of the day, one could sit down and watch news to know what is happening around the world. How many of us can sit and watch the news with our kids without having to explain? We will we ever get to watch real news that will have an impact on our lives? Will we ever go back to the real world? Is there going to be a revolution to get out of this MATRIX? I don't know.. but I hope so.
